Shelterbelt Application


The landowner costs of the shelterbelt services are:

  1. $ 150.00 per mile for field shelterbelts with $150.00 minimum fee.
  2. $ 250.00 per mile for yard shelterbelts with $250.00 minimum fee.
  3. Weed Barrier (.30 – .50/ foot approximate) Call the office for details.
  4. Tree stock – cost recovery basis (1.50 tree approximate)

CONDITIONS: The watershed district shall:

  1. Assist landowner in planning.
  2. Plant tree stock.
  3. Install weed barrier at landowner request.

The landowner shall:

  1. Provide a suitable planting site i.e.: summer fallow strip, and a tractor with hydraulics and driver for planting and application of plastic mulch.
  2. Protect the planting from livestock, chemical, fire or other damage.
  3. Preparation and maintenance costs are 100% landowner.
  4. Provide weed control as necessary for a minimum of 3 years.
  5. Allow reasonable access to project areas for tours or to inspect the condition of the project.
  6. Grant the Watershed District the right to use any information related to this project for educational or promotional purposes.
  7. Remit payment for shelterbelt services in a timely manner.

General Terms and Conditions:

  • Tree species subject to supplier availability and import restrictions
  • Subject to the above terms, the agreement shall become effective and shall be binding upon both parties.
  • If either party fails to meet the above mentioned responsibilities, the agreement may be terminated by the party via written notice.
  • The annual projects resulting from this program will be subject to funds appropriated.
  • Technical service will be subject to the availability of staff. The district reserves the right to establish priorities for providing such services and assistance.

Failure of Landowner to meet Landowner Responsibilities may negate him/her from other Watershed District programs.


District may refuse to plant or replant if landowner refuses to do any of his/her tasks.
