Shelterbelts

AWWD’s Shelterbelt program provides assistance to landowners who wish to establish shelterbelts in fields, around livestock facilities, and near dugouts. Shelterbelts help minimize the impacts of wind, create habitat, and provide shelter to farmyards and livestock. Shelterbelts also absorb excessive moisture, trap snow, and remove carbon dioxide from the air.
Our staff can help with choosing and ordering trees as well as planting and mulching (plastic mulch can be used in an effort to reduce weed pressure and improve seedling survival) once the site is prepared.

Interested in trees only or want to plant your shelterbelt on your own? 10-24 inch conservation grade trees can be ordered through the district at ~$2.50 per tree.
Funding is available if you are interested in establishing a shelterbelt and your project meets the criteria. Contact AWWD for more information.
